Cathy Carasso and Georgina Cornely will be on stage at the La Chapelle Theatre on April 14th, 15th, 21st and 22nd to perform « Echappée Belle », the last play of the Apatrides company. Encounter with these two very experienced actresses.

Audrey Duputié, artistic director of the La Chapelle Theatre, wanted to call in two of her oldest actresses to put together her last adaptation, a play entitled “Echappée Belle”. The pitch: Margot is tired of her non-spicy family lifestyle. She has hit the road. Claude has escaped from her retirement home. They meet on the side of a highway in the middle of the night. They don’t know it yet, but they are about to experience unprecedented adventures.

In this road-movie comedy, Cathy Carasso and Georgina Cornely will embody two generations that will meet to generate incongruous and crazy situations. However, after having respectively spent 20 years and 14 years within the same theatre company, they will play together for the first time. A tremendous challenge for both these experienced actresses who have worked hard for months. “When we are two on stage, we have to give everything”, Cathy Carasso emphasizes. “There is no time-out, you can’t let go”. “But it’s easier to find ways to rehearse and we are less dependent on other actors for the lines”, Georgina Cornely counterbalances.

A BIG FAMILY

Actors working together towards the same goal also means “creating bonds”, Georgina explains. “I used to know Cathy, but we had never performed together, today a new relationship is being forged. The Theatre is a big family. We learn a lot from each other’s.” Even after years of training. Because Cathy Carasso and Georgina Cornely have indeed a nice theatrical course behind them. Cathy who is now President of the Apatrides non-profit organization, was one of the first to get into the company alongside Audrey Duputié in 2004. Georgina was convinced to embark on the adventure in 2009 when the Apatrides was officially founded as an organization and she is now working as a theatre professor in several schools. Both actresses have seen the evolution of the company over the years, but also that of the buildings, from the cultural center in Sandy Ground to the La Chapelle Theatre, through the Salle Timbanque on the Marina Royale in Marigot. They have also been able to evolve and to apprehend different genres, but their favorite has remained comedy. “I like what is funny”, Cathy confirms. “Besides, I’ve learned a lot with the clown. It’s a very different style, not an easy one, where one has to make people laugh with almost nothing”.

Hence, they will be in their element next April 14th for the Premiere of “Echappée Belle”. And in spite of years and being experienced, stage fright will always be the same. “There is a lot of adrenaline in the theatre. At the end of a performance, you feel empty but you cannot sleep”, Georgina laughs. One thing is certain, we will be there to support them and to enjoy their efforts!
