Our opinion on the film The Batman

The editorial team

After many versions all imprinted with the style of their respective directors, we thought we had seen everything from Batman, and above all that it would be difficult to do better. But Matt Reeves' version managed to surprise us. The director signs a dark adaptation that immerses us in a dirty Gotham City, consumed by corruption. The photography makes perfect this nocturnal and gloomy atmosphere which leaves room for light and hope only at the very end of the film.

Instead of immersing us once again into the genesis of the character (which everyone is starting to know), The Batman starts two years after the billionaire Bruce Wayne decided to save his city from the underworld and takes us on an investigation all in detail and realism. We discover a deeply human Batman, with his flaws, his cracks and his traumas which prevent him from having a normal life, embodied by a Robert Pattinson who we had not imagined in this role at all but who masterfully invests the character. We also discover a sexy and enigmatic Catwoman played by Zoë Kravitz, a very good Captain Gordon (Jeffrey Wright), black for once, and a deranged recluse whom Paul Dano embodies to perfection. Added to this excellent cast is the director's choice to bet on high-tech superhero accessories but not too much, far from the technologically impossible gadgets offered by the previous films.

In short, we find the darkness of Gotham, the total corruption of its institutions and the resignation of its inhabitants, as well as the vulnerability and the tortured psychology of the Batman that we loved so much in DC comics. A must-see for Batman fans and others. Despite its 3 hours, we didn't realize how late it was!
