A place to have a drink with friends

"Because I have lived in Grand Case for a long time, I have a thing for Grand Case in general… the Blue Martini! Martin and Victor have done a great job at creating a cozy atmosphere… darts, pool table, etc. together with a friendly but efficient waitressing makes it a good reason to meet up and grab a drink with pals!"

A place to please your taste buds

"Still in Grand Case, Ocean 82, beautiful setting, I really enjoy what Franck makes, a refined cuisine, with unexpected flavor combinations… Recently I have feasted on a combination of rock lobster and roasted apple with Camembert sauce!! Inside, the kindness and professionalism of Romain and his team will guarantee a beautiful evening out. Just in front, the Bistrot Caraïbes of the brothers Amaury and Thibault is also a great address! More exotic, I love the Alina Japanese restaurant in Maho! Chef Ken is really skilled!! And finally, I am looking forward to discovering the “Les Galets” host table in Orient Bay gardens, where it looks like Hubert and Nico are making a ‘full house’! If a lady would like to come with me…"

A place to party

"I don’t go out late anymore… (laughs). I think the Sunday atmosphere at Coco Beach at the end of the day is very nice! I am going to say it again, but Blue Martini is always a safe option to continue the evening and assure you a nice headache for the following day!"

A place to dance

"For the greater good, I, very, very rarely dance… (laughs). Reportedly, for adepts, weekends at the Rainbow or at Temps des Cerises seem to be conducive to shaking it! Look for me, I will most likely be comfortably settled in an easy chair with a drink in hand!"

A place to enjoy sunsets

"There is still that weakness for Grand Case! I think the ambiance near the dock is very pleasant, Max’s Place, Quai 58, 2 styles but 2 perfect places for a sunset drink. On the Dutch side, I really like the touristy atmosphere of the Buccaneers beach bar and sunsets are very pretty, with a bonfire every day on the beach at the same time. "

A place to listen to live music

"I really enjoy playing at the Simpson Bay Yacht Club, adorable staff, completely cosmopolitan and international clientele of all ages! I regret not being able to perform at Blue Martini anymore due to recent months Covid restrictions… but it will come back and this is still a very trendy place to enjoy live music! Thursday nights at the Waï are also top notch! Christelle and her team know how to host!"

ABOUT

Olivier Escuder, a.k.a. Scud, has dedicated most of his life to sports. After a very full career as a professional hockey player, he took off in 2007 to Saint-Martin/Sint Maarten for a new life in the world of catering. Guitarist since his adolescence, here is where he has been able to develop his passion. Alongside his mentor and friend, guitarist Amin, with whom he has been playing for about ten year now, he has started learning how to create loops, a technic that has become over the years a trade mark for both of them. Nowadays, in parallel to a concierge service company he has recently launched, he keeps playing solo, as a duet, or as a trio with numerous musicians such as Amin, Fredo on harmonica, Agathe on vocals, or Gordon on saxophone. He is highly praised for his acoustic and dynamic pop rock repertoire.

WHERE TO LISTEN TO HIM?

  • Wednesday nights at La Samanna (Terres Basses)

  • Friday nights at the Sint Maarten Yacht Club (Simpson Bay)

  • Every two weeks on Saturday night at Blue Martini (Grand Case)
