Vere Hill: homecoming

The St. Martin musician, who had gone off to build a career in the United States for more than 10 years, is back on the Friendly Island for one month. He is the very special guest of the Red Piano where he is performing from Tuesdays to Sundays until March 31st.

Some musicians who have grown up on the island take the decision to go off to build a career internationally. This is what happened to Vere Hill who had spent 32 beautiful years of music in Sint Maarten, learning and performing alongside the best musicians of the island, before deciding to move to the United State in 2012. Eleven years later, one can say that it was a good decision. Vere Hill is now performing more than 300 times a year in the New England area, and has released several titles these past few years. A year ago, the musician even made the buzz on the internet with a video in which he was offering to sing “Tennessee Whiskey” alongside artist Døvydas in a street of St Armands Circle. His hoarse and warm voice seduces the crowds, but his musical versatility is also impressive. Nicknamed « the one-man party », Vere Hill is a self-sufficient one-man orchestra. Accompanied by his 2 synthesizers, he plays bass on one and percussions and melody on the other one. Thanks to the musical richness surrounding him since his childhood, the musician is also able to perform in many musical styles. Pop, rock, jazz, reggae, blues… just ask! It is only logical that he is the guest of the Red Piano this month. This venue welcomes every month a different pianist to perform in a show where any request is allowed. If Vere Hill knows the place well, a big challenge awaits him. “I know thousands of songs and I’m used to playing every day in a different place, but sitting there 6 nights a week answering the public’s requests, is going to be a big challenge”, the artist acknowledges. He even thinks that it will be a “big move” for his career. A big move where everything started.
