“Creole Culinary Classroom” is recently offering cooking classes from different kinds to satisfy everyone. We have tried the creole cooking class.
Anna, passionate about cooking, welcomed us in Cole Bay in a brand-new workshop, beautifully decorated and endowed with a fully equipped kitchen. After putting on an apron - and for those who wished, a chef’s hat to completely fulfil the role-, it was time for explanations. The hostess clearly detailed the workshop which lasted three hours and a half. We each had to make a starter, a main course and a dessert. On the menu: fish fritters, stuffed christophine, mahi-mahi with mango sauce and djondjon rice, and pineapple crème brûlée.
WITHIN EVERYONE’S REACH
Then it was time to practice. In a relaxed atmosphere, we carefully followed Anna’s instructions who guided us through the steps of each recipe. Small mobile worktops equipped with all the necessary utensils allowed us to cook in pairs near a hob.
No need to be an experienced chef to succeed! The recipes were simple and easily reproducible at home. Some of the ingredients were even cut or prepared, to make our job easier, and Anna forbade us to wash the dishes! All we had to do was to focus on the execution of the recipes and sample our dishes, that we tasted as we went, which made the experience even more fun and enjoyable. The traditional rum punch and bam bam - made by Anna in front of us - accompanied our meal.
DISCOVERING OTHER COOKING STYLES
Anna founded “Creole Culinary Classroom” to offer an original activity to visitors, but also to residents. The Creole cooking class is a perfect workshop for beginners and experienced cooks who can discover different ways of cooking and add new recipes to their notebooks. Thereafter, the school will regularly invite local chefs to offer other cuisine courses such as Spanish, Mexican or vegan cuisine.
